You Need to Know Why I Launched the Veterans' Collective
Launching the Veterans Collective is both duanting and exciting
My purpose is to help people find meaning, restore their energy, and gain clarity in a noisy world. So why not start with something familiar? Veterans Collective exists to support military veterans. I've made mistakes, but when failure is viewed as feedback it's easier to recover and move forward.
The best Military Veteran Support is Rarely Generic
It is respectful.
Personal.
Easy to understand.
Free of jargon.
Some may be carrying more than they let on. It is for those who still wish to have a sense of belonging. It is also for those times when life feels heavy, direction feels unclear, and the pressure quietly builds in the background.
This is about practical support, honest conversation, and small steps that help people feel more like themselves again.
That is it. Clear and straightforward.
I care deeply about this community and what it could become. I want it to be a place that genuinely helps people, and a place where veterans can feel positive about themselves again.
When Life Kicks You Around
One of the simplest ways I can describe how life has felt at times is this.
I am a football.
At first, I was being kicked around the back garden. Then the game got more intense. I was booted from town to town, and every so often I landed in a thorny bush. Over time, the leather got scuffed, the stitching loosened, and from a distance I still looked alright.
Then one day in 2013, while serving with the British Army, I took a puncture.
That is what “being fine” can look like in real life.
You keep going. You stay useful. You show up. You crack on. But something is slowly leaking out of you, and nobody can see it until it becomes impossible to ignore.
That is why the phrase it is okay to ask for help matters.
Because sometimes the strongest thing a person can do is notice the leak early.
A Bit of Humour Matters Too
A sense of humour matters.
Life after service can be serious enough without making every conversation feel heavy. There is no judgement here. There is room for honesty, perspective, and a bit of laughter along the way.
Military banter still exists. And we can have some fun along the way.
This Is About the Everyday Moments
Veterans Collective is not only for crisis point.
It is for the quieter moments too. The times when the pressure is rising, energy is dropping, and life starts to feel harder than it needs to be.
This is not about grand reinvention. It is about recognising when something needs attention, then doing something practical about it before things get worse.
Metaphors help because they give us language for things that are often hard to explain. Once you can describe what is going on, you have a better chance of doing something useful with it.
Good Mental Health Needs Looking After
This is not about self pity. It is about perspective.
Asking for help does not mean you are broken. It does not mean you are weak. It does not mean you have failed.
It means something needs attention.
And very often, that attention is simple and practical:
Air
Rest. Sleep. Recovery time. Space to think.
A patch
One small change that stops the leak.
A hand on the ball
A conversation. A check-in. Asking for support earlier rather than later.
Veterans Collective is built around conversation, reflection, practical tools, and shared understanding. It is support that fits real life.
It is not therapy. If you are in immediate danger or at risk of harm, contact emergency services or a qualified professional straight away.
A Practical Reset You Can Use Today
Find the leak. Patch the leak.
Take two minutes and ask yourself:
Pressure check
Right now, where is your pressure on a scale of 0 to 10?
Name the leak
“I’m at a 4 because ________.”
It might be poor sleep, constant worry, too much responsibility, isolation, bad habits, lack of movement, or never really switching off.
Patch it
Choose one action that takes 10 minutes or less.
Fill a bottle and drink it before lunch.
Go outside for a 10 minute walk with no phone.
Send one message saying, “Can we talk this week?”
Put a hard stop on work tonight and protect it.
That is how you stop a slow leak turning into a flat ball.
What You Can Expect from Veterans Collective
This is a place for veterans who are carrying a lot, or simply looking for more clarity, more direction, and a stronger sense of purpose.
You can expect practical posts, useful ideas, honest reflection, and support that feels real rather than polished.
You can subscribe for simple tools and resets that help straight away.
You can get in touch about talks, workshops, or support for workplaces and groups.
You can reach out privately if you are not even sure what the leak is yet. That is a normal place to start.
Most of all, this is about helping veterans find clarity in the noise, regain confidence, and keep moving forward.
And yes, have a bit of fun along the way.
